Top tips about Handmade Jarapa Rugs

How to select your Jarapas handmade rug

  • If you would like to place a rug under a dining or kitchen table, the rug should be about 120cm longer and wider than your table.

  • For well used areas such as entrance halls, halls and kitchens, choose our extra hardwearing Batalla sencilla styles, preferably in dark colours.

  • For dark floors, choose light-coloured rugs, so that they do not blend in and disappear once in place. For light-coloured flooring, choose rugs in brighter colours in order to enhance your floor surfaces.

  • Hand-woven in cotton and cotton chenille, our rugs are machine washable on a 30-degree cycle and are thus ideal if you have pets. In fact, our Mini Doble rugs are often used as bedding for cats and dogs!

Choice of colours & styles

  • Cream or light coloured rugs will brighten up dark rooms and will give a feeling of space to small rooms.

  • Cream rugs will convey a more sophisticated and elegant style.

  • Cool colours, such as green and blue will convey a feeling of freshness and peacefulness, and are ideal in rooms where you need a calming effect such as studies, offices, etc.

  • Earthy colours, such as terracotta, red, yellow, brown, will create a warm and cosy atmosphere.

Product care instructions

  • On receipt of your rug, please shake it outside to remove any loose cotton.

  • Your Jarapa rug is made from 85% recycled cotton and 15% recycled cotton chenille. The plain cream rugs are handmade from 100% recycled cotton.

  • Wash on a 30 degrees cycle in your domestic machine or in a launderette if a larger rug is purchased (140x200 and 170x240 rugs).

  • For reversible rugs, tumble dry to enhance the luxurious pile, and shake regularly between washes to keep the pile nice and fluffy.

  • After washing your jarapa rug, check your washing machine filter for any excess fluff, and clear it if necessary.

  • Do not bleach.

  • Do not iron.

  • Our jarapa rugs can be cleaned using a vacuum cleaner to remove any dust with a soft-furnishing attachment.

  • Our rugs can be easily secured on any smooth surfaces such as tiled or laminated floors with anti-slip products such as rug underlay, sticky tapes or rug anti-slip spray. For more information, see our Rug anti-slip suppliers list.

Top tips about Jarapa handmade rugs

  • Securing your handmade rug with an anti-slip underlay will add thermal insulation, pile protection and extra cushioned softness.

  • If you would like to use an anti-slip underlay to secure your Jarapa rug, it needs to be smaller than your rug size so it doesn't show.

  • Our Batalla Doble rugs are excellent entrance mats, as they absorb mud and any other dirt. You only need to shake them and wash them in your washing machine! Original and elegant entrance mats, they are practical and hardwearing, wash after wash!
